Social Media is a buzz term that I hear a lot of in the technology event space, but has it impacted you the CIO? Every day office users are constantly on applications such as twitter, facebook, myspace and linkedin; what does this do to your network security and overall user productivity? One of the exciting new agenda items for this years Midsize Enterprise Summit focuses on how the X/Y Generations web obsessions can effect your business for both good and bad.
Please leave comments and feedback on your experience with social media we would like to add actual case studies to the session.
Enjoy your day and check back tomorrow!

In my honest opinion, like most social media tactics, we must take into account a certain bit of unmeasurable effort. If your firm depends on a positive brand message to hit the public in the face then social networking is tollerable to an extent from employees.
ReplyDeleteI wrote two blog posts recently that address the IT executives' knowledge and responsibilities with regards to social media. You can read them here (http://blog.keithparnell.com/index.php/2008/12/31/role-of-the-cio-socially-speaking/) and here (http://blog.keithparnell.com/index.php/2008/12/31/it-chief-techie-or-business-savvy/).
Here is an excerpt from those articles:
"... I believe it is the CIO’s responsibility to be all over social networks for their company, to be knowledgeable in the environment and understand them architecturally. This means experience. This means active participation.
The CIO must know, in enough detail, the relationship between architecture, strategy and innovation. And must be able to establish goals for the IT division that will satisfy marketing on social platforms like JASEzone."
